+ Emergency checklist: I smell burning or see smoke near an outlet or panel. What do I do?
Get everyone out of the room, then out of the building if there is smoke or visible flame, and call 911 first. Do not open the panel to look. Do not throw water on an electrical fire. If you can reach the main breaker safely and there is no smoke at the panel itself, switch it off. Then call us at 877-847-6084 and we will come out.
+ Emergency checklist: a power line is down on my property. What do I do?
Stay back at least 30 feet, keep children and pets inside, and assume every line is live. Do not touch the line, a vehicle in contact with it, or anything the line is resting on. Call 911 and your utility, which is Pacific Power or Consumers Power depending on your address. This is utility work before it is electrician work.
+ Emergency checklist: a breaker keeps tripping and will not stay on. What do I do?
Stop using that circuit and leave the breaker off. A breaker that trips repeatedly is doing exactly what it was designed to do, and forcing it back on is how a wiring fault becomes a fire. Note which rooms and outlets went dead and what was running at the time. That tells us where to look and saves you diagnostic time.
+ Emergency checklist: the power is out. What should I do while I wait?
Turn off and unplug what you can reach safely, particularly heat producing appliances that would restart unattended when power returns. Leave one light switched on so you know the moment service is restored. If your outage is not part of a wider one on your street, the fault may be on your side of the meter, and that is our call rather than the utility's.
